How to Change Your Instagram Password

Change your password while logged in

Open your profile and tap the menu.

Open Accounts Center, then Password and security.

Choose Change password and select the Instagram account.

Enter the current password, create a unique new password, and save the change.

Reset a forgotten password

From the login screen, choose Forgot password or Get help logging in.

Enter the username, email address, or phone number connected to the account.

Use the official link or code Instagram sends. If the message does not arrive, check spelling, spam folders, and whether you still control the recovery method.

Create a stronger password

Use a long, unique passphrase that is not used on any other website.

Avoid names, birthdays, predictable substitutions, and passwords visible in data breaches.

Store it in a reputable password manager instead of a note or message thread.

Secure the account after changing it

Review Where you're logged in and end unfamiliar sessions.

Enable two-factor authentication, preferably with an authenticator app, and save backup codes offline.

Confirm that the email address and phone number in Accounts Center are yours.

Remove third-party apps you no longer trust or use.

If you think the account was hacked

Use Instagram's hacked-account recovery route if an attacker changed your contact information.

Secure the connected email account first, because an attacker with email access may reset Instagram again.

Never send a login link, password, or two-factor code to someone offering recovery help.
