How to log out in the Instagram app

Open Instagram and tap your profile picture in the lower-right corner.

Tap the menu icon in the upper-right corner, then open Settings and activity.

Scroll to the bottom and choose Log out. If several accounts are added, select the account you want to sign out of or choose Log out all accounts.

Confirm the choice. Instagram may ask whether you want to save login information on that device; decline on a shared phone.

How to log out on a computer

Open Instagram.com and select More in the lower-left area.

Choose Log out. Closing the browser tab alone does not reliably end the session.

On a public computer, also clear the site data or use the browser's private mode next time.

Remove a remembered account from the login screen

Logging out can leave the account name visible so you can sign in quickly. On the login screen, open the options beside the remembered account and choose Remove. This removes the saved login shortcut from that device; it does not delete the Instagram account or erase its posts.

Log out of a lost or unfamiliar device

Change your password if the device is lost or you suspect unauthorized access.

Review Accounts Center, Password and security, and Where you're logged in. Select sessions you do not recognize and log them out.

Turn on two-factor authentication and store backup codes somewhere safe.

Troubleshooting

If the Log out button does not respond, update the app, force-close it, and try again on a stable connection.

If an unfamiliar session returns after removal, secure the email account linked to Instagram and remove suspicious connected apps.
