A
Algorithm
The set of rules a platform uses to decide what shows up in a user's feed, and in what order. It weighs signals like watch time, engagement rate, and recency to predict what a viewer is most likely to interact with.
AMA (Ask Me Anything)
A format where a creator or public figure opens the floor to questions from their audience, usually in real time. Popularized on Reddit and now common across live formats on most platforms.
Analytics
The data dashboard a platform provides showing how content is performing: reach, impressions, engagement, follower growth, and audience demographics over a given period.
Avatar
The profile picture or icon representing a user or account, whether a photo, illustration, or brand logo.
B
Bio
The short description at the top of a profile that tells visitors who an account belongs to and what it's about, often including a link.
Bot
An automated account or script that performs actions, such as following, liking, or commenting, without a real person behind each individual action.
Boost
Paying to increase a post's distribution beyond what it would receive organically, usually through a platform's built-in advertising tools.
Brand Awareness
How familiar an audience is with a business or product, measured less by sales and more by recognition and recall.

Caption
The text accompanying a post, used to add context, prompt engagement, or tell a story alongside an image or video.
Carousel
A single post containing multiple images or videos that a viewer swipes through, commonly used on Instagram and LinkedIn.
Churn Rate
The percentage of followers or subscribers an account loses over a given period, the inverse of retention.
Content Calendar
A planning tool creators and brands use to schedule what gets posted and when, keeping output consistent across platforms.
Conversion Rate
The percentage of people who take a specific desired action, such as clicking a link or making a purchase, after engaging with a post.
CPM (Cost Per Mille)
The cost an advertiser pays to reach 1,000 people with an ad, used to compare the efficiency of ad spend across campaigns.
CTA (Call to Action)
A prompt within a post or caption asking the audience to do something specific, such as "comment below" or "link in bio."

Direct Message (DM)
A private message sent between users, outside the public feed or comment section.
Discovery
The process by which a platform's algorithm surfaces content to users who don't already follow the creator, typically through recommendation feeds like Instagram's Explore or TikTok's For You Page.
Drop Protection
A guarantee offered by some growth service providers to replace followers, likes, or other engagement that naturally decreases after delivery, usually within a stated time window.

Engagement
Any interaction a user has with a piece of content: likes, comments, shares, saves, or clicks.
Engagement Rate
A metric calculated by dividing total engagement by total followers or impressions, used to measure how actively an audience interacts with content relative to its size.
Explore Page
A discovery feed, most associated with Instagram, that surfaces content from accounts a user doesn't follow based on their past activity and interests.
Exposure
How many people have had the opportunity to see a piece of content, similar to reach but not always implying a completed view.
F
Feed
The main scrolling stream of content a user sees when they open a platform, populated by a mix of followed accounts and algorithmic recommendations.
Filter
A visual effect applied to a photo or video, ranging from simple color adjustments to augmented reality overlays.
Followers
Users who have opted in to see updates from a specific account, forming its core audience.
For You Page (FYP)
TikTok's primary discovery feed, curated for each user based on their watch history, likes, and interactions rather than who they follow.

Geotag
A location marker attached to a post, showing where the content was created or where the creator is based.
Giveaway
A promotion where a creator or brand offers a prize in exchange for actions like following, liking, or tagging friends, used to boost visibility and engagement.
Growth Hacking
Using creative, often low-cost tactics, rather than traditional advertising, to grow an audience or user base quickly.

Handle
The unique username used to identify an account, typically preceded by an "@" symbol.
Hashtag
A keyword or phrase preceded by "#" that groups related posts together and makes them discoverable through search.
High Retention Content
Video content where viewers watch a significant portion of the total runtime, a strong positive signal to most platform algorithms.

Impressions
The total number of times a piece of content has been displayed, regardless of whether the viewer engaged with or even noticed it.
Influencer
An individual who has built enough trust and reach with an audience to shape opinions or purchasing decisions, usually within a specific niche.

Joint Post
A single post that appears simultaneously on two or more accounts' profiles and feeds, splitting credit and engagement between the collaborators.

Keyword

KPI (Key Performance Indicator)
A specific, measurable metric used to track progress toward a goal, such as engagement rate, follower growth, or conversion rate.

Likes
A quick, low-effort form of engagement where a user taps to show approval of a post, one of the earliest and most common engagement signals.
Link in Bio
A single clickable link placed in a profile's bio, commonly used to route traffic since most platforms don't allow clickable links within individual posts.
Live Streaming
Broadcasting video content to an audience in real time, without editing, commonly used for Q&As, events, or behind-the-scenes content.

Mentions
Instances where an account is tagged by name in another user's post, comment, or story, often notifying the tagged account directly.
Meme
An image, video, or piece of text that spreads rapidly across social platforms, usually humorous and often remixed with new captions or context.
Micro-Influencer
A creator with a smaller but highly engaged following, typically in the 10,000 to 100,000 range, valued for closer audience connection over sheer reach.
Monetization
Turning an online audience into income through methods like ad revenue, sponsorships, subscriptions, or product sales.

Niche
A specific, well-defined topic or audience segment that a creator or brand focuses their content around, rather than trying to appeal broadly.
Notification
An alert sent to a user about activity relevant to their account, such as a new follower, comment, or mention.

Organic Reach
The number of people who see a post without any paid promotion behind it, driven purely by the algorithm and existing audience.
Organic Growth
Increasing followers or engagement through content and audience behavior alone, without paid advertising or purchased engagement.

Page
A public profile on platforms like Facebook, typically representing a business, brand, or public figure rather than an individual.
Password Policy
A provider's stated approach to account credentials; reputable growth services never require a password to deliver followers, likes, or views.
Pinned Post
A specific post a user chooses to keep at the top of their profile, regardless of when it was originally published.
Profile

Quote Post
A post where a user shares someone else's content while adding their own commentary above or alongside it.
Quiz Sticker

Reel

Refill Policy

Repost
Sharing someone else's content to your own profile or Story, crediting the original creator.
Retention Rate
The percentage of delivered engagement, such as followers or views, that remains active after a set period, a key metric for evaluating growth service quality.

Save
An action where a user bookmarks a post to revisit later, a strong engagement signal since it reflects genuine interest beyond a quick scroll.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Techniques used to improve how easily content is found through search, including on-platform search and external search engines.
Shadowban
When a platform quietly limits a post or account's visibility without notifying the user or issuing a formal penalty.
Share
Passing content along to a new audience, whether by resending it directly, reposting it, or forwarding it in a message.
Story
Temporary content, typically photos or short videos, that disappears after 24 hours unless saved to a permanent Highlight.
Subscriber
A user who has opted in to follow a specific channel or creator, most associated with YouTube.

Tag
Linking another account within a post, comment, or photo, usually by adding "@" before their username.
Thread
A series of connected posts published in sequence to tell a longer story, common on Twitter (X) and Threads.
Trending
Content, hashtags, or topics experiencing a rapid, temporary spike in activity and visibility across a platform.

User-Generated Content (UGC)
Content created by an audience, customer, or fan rather than the brand or creator itself, often used to build authenticity.
Username
The unique identifier attached to an account, used to search for, tag, and mention a specific profile.

Verified
A badge indicating a platform has confirmed an account's authenticity, historically reserved for public figures and brands.
Video Retention
See High Retention Content. Measures how much of a video's total runtime the average viewer actually watches.
Viral
Content that spreads rapidly and widely, generating a disproportionate amount of views, likes, or shares relative to the account's usual reach.
Views
The number of times a piece of video content has been watched, though the exact threshold for counting a "view" varies by platform.
W
Watch Time
The cumulative amount of time an audience has spent watching a piece of video content, a heavily weighted ranking signal on platforms like YouTube and TikTok.
Widget
An embeddable piece of content or functionality, such as a follower counter or feed preview, added to a website outside the original platform.
X
X (formerly Twitter)
A short-form text and multimedia platform built around real-time posts, renamed from Twitter following its 2022 acquisition.
Y
YouTube
The largest video-sharing platform globally, launched in 2005, built around long-form video, Shorts, and Live streaming.
Z
Zero-Click Content
Content designed to deliver its full value directly within the feed, without requiring the viewer to click through to an external link or website.
