Select Instagram, open Storage & cache, and tap Clear cache. Manufacturer menus may use slightly different names.

Choose Clear storage only as a last resort. It removes local app data and usually signs you out, while Clear cache removes temporary files.

Clear Instagram cache on iPhone

iOS does not provide a universal Clear cache button for individual third-party apps.

Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Instagram and choose Offload App to remove the app while retaining supported documents and data, then reinstall it.

For a more complete local reset, delete Instagram and download it again from the App Store. Confirm your password, email access, and two-factor authentication method first.

What clearing cache does and does not remove

Cache removal deletes temporary local files that can be recreated. The first launch may be slower while media reloads.

It does not delete your Instagram account, cloud-hosted posts, followers, or messages.

Drafts and certain device-only data can be vulnerable during deletion, offloading, or storage clearing. Publish, save, or record anything important first.

When cache clearing is useful

Try it for stale thumbnails, unusually high storage use, repeated loading errors, or an app that behaves differently from instagram.com.

Update Instagram and restart the phone before using more disruptive steps.

Cache clearing will not fix account restrictions, forgotten passwords, server outages, or recommendation eligibility.

Reduce storage growth

Remove unneeded downloaded media and old drafts, and review device storage periodically.

Keep Instagram and the operating system updated so storage bugs receive available fixes.

Avoid third-party cleaner apps that request Instagram credentials or broad device permissions.
