How to Reset the Instagram Algorithm

Instagram now offers a recommendation reset that can clear suggested content across Explore, Reels, and Feed. It does not erase your account, posts, followers, messages, or basic profile data. After the reset, recommendations personalize again from the accounts and content you interact with.
Reset suggested content
Open your Instagram profile and tap the three-line menu.
Choose Content preferences, then Reset suggested content. Review the explanation and continue through the confirmation screens.
Instagram may invite you to review accounts you follow before completing the reset. Unfollow only accounts you genuinely no longer want to influence your experience.
What the reset changes
The reset affects recommended content in Explore, Reels, and parts of Feed. It is not a factory reset for the account.
Your posts, messages, followers, following list, saved posts, and login details remain unless you change them separately.
Recommendations begin learning again as you watch, skip, like, save, share, search, and follow.
Retrain recommendations intentionally
Use Not interested on unwanted suggestions instead of repeatedly watching them to the end.
Use Interested, likes, saves, and meaningful follows for topics you want to see more often.
Search for a small number of relevant themes and interact naturally over several sessions; one action rarely changes every surface immediately.
Clean up other signals
Review your following list, muted accounts, saved collections, and recent searches.
Use Hidden Words in Content preferences to reduce recommendations containing specified words, phrases, or emoji where the feature is available.
Avoid automated engagement or mass actions. They can produce noisy signals and may trigger temporary limits.
If Reset suggested content is missing
Update the Instagram app and check Content preferences again.
Use Not interested on individual posts, clear recent searches, and switch to Following or Favorites feeds for more direct control.
Feature availability can vary. Do not install modified apps or hand over credentials to a service claiming it can reset the algorithm.
Frequently asked questions
Does resetting the algorithm delete anything?
It resets recommended content, not your posts, messages, followers, saved items, or account.
How long does retraining take?
There is no fixed timer; recommendations adapt over time from your new interactions.
Can I reset only Explore?
The official reset covers suggested content across Explore, Reels, and Feed. You can also mark individual Explore posts Not interested.
