How to Reset Your Instagram Feed

There is no button that turns the home feed into a permanently blank slate, but Instagram's recommendation reset can clear suggested content across Feed, Reels, and Explore. You can then use Following, Favorites, mute, and recommendation controls to build a feed that better matches your current interests.
Reset recommended Feed content
Go to your profile, open the menu, and choose Content preferences.
Select Reset suggested content and confirm after reading the notice.
This does not remove followed accounts or delete posts. Suggested content begins personalizing again from your future activity.
Use Following and Favorites feeds
Tap the Instagram wordmark or feed selector at the top of Home when available and choose Following to see recent posts from accounts you follow.
Add important accounts to Favorites to give them higher priority and access a focused Favorites feed.
These views provide more direct control but may still differ slightly by app version and region.
Remove signals you no longer want
Unfollow accounts that no longer fit your interests, or mute posts and Stories when you want to stay connected without seeing every update.
Choose Not interested on irrelevant suggested posts and avoid prolonged viewing of content you do not want repeated.
Clear obsolete searches and review Hidden Words and sensitive-content preferences.
Fix a feed that will not refresh
Check the connection, force-close Instagram, reopen it, and update the app.
On Android, clearing Instagram's cache can remove damaged temporary files. On iPhone, offloading or reinstalling is the closest system-level alternative.
Check whether Instagram is experiencing a wider outage before changing account settings.
Build healthier feed habits
Follow a smaller set of consistently useful accounts instead of adding many sources at once.
Use Save for valuable posts and periodically review the accounts that dominate your attention.
A recommendation reset works best when followed by clear, consistent choices rather than rapid mass engagement.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make the Instagram feed chronological?
Use the Following feed when available to view recent posts from accounts you follow.
Does a reset remove followers or following?
No. Your relationship lists remain unless you change them.
Why is my feed showing suggested posts again?
Recommendations rebuild from new activity and are part of the home experience; use Not interested and preference controls to refine them.
