How to Unlink Instagram Accounts

Identify how the accounts are connected

Check whether both profiles appear under Accounts Center > Accounts.

Review connected experiences such as logging in with accounts, profile information syncing, and sharing across profiles.

If the only issue is an account name on the login screen, remove saved login information instead of changing Accounts Center.

Remove an Instagram account from Accounts Center

Open your profile, tap the menu, and open Accounts Center.

Choose Accounts, select the Instagram profile you want to separate, and tap Remove. Read the confirmation carefully before continuing.

The removed profile continues to exist. Its posts, followers, and messages are not deleted by this action.

Turn off individual connected experiences

If you want to keep accounts in the same Accounts Center, disable only the feature you no longer want.

Review Sharing across profiles, Logging in with accounts, and profile information syncing.

Stopping sync does not automatically restore an older profile photo, name, or username; update each profile manually if needed.

Separate login and recovery details

Give each account a unique password and verify its email address and phone number.

Review Where you're logged in and end unfamiliar sessions for both profiles.

Enable two-factor authentication and store backup codes separately so one compromised inbox or device does not expose every account.

Remove a remembered account from the device

Log out of the account, then use the options on Instagram's login screen to remove the remembered profile.

This removes the shortcut from that phone; it does not unlink Accounts Center or delete the account.

On shared devices, also avoid saving passwords in a shared browser or password manager profile.
