How to Update Instagram on iPhone and Android

Keeping Instagram updated gives you the latest available features, security improvements, and stability fixes. Updates are delivered through the App Store on iPhone and Google Play on Android; Instagram does not require a separate installer from a website.

Quick answer: On iPhone, open App Store > account photo > App Updates > Update beside Instagram. On Android, open Google Play > profile > Manage apps & device > Updates available > Update beside Instagram.

Update Instagram on iPhone

Open the App Store and tap your account photo or My Account button.

Open App Updates, find Instagram, and tap Update. If only Open appears on the Instagram store page, the latest version available to that device is installed.

You can enable automatic app updates in Settings > Apps > App Store > App Updates.

Update Instagram on Android

Open Google Play, tap the profile icon, and choose Manage apps & device.

Under Updates available, tap See details and choose Update beside Instagram, or use Update all.

To enable automatic updates for Instagram, open its Play Store details page, tap the menu, and enable auto update.

If the Update button is missing

App releases can roll out gradually, so another account or region may receive a version first.

Confirm the phone's operating system is supported and that you are signed into the correct App Store or Google Play account.

Restart the store app and device, then check again on a stable connection.

Fix an update that will not install

Free device storage, pause other downloads, and switch between reliable Wi-Fi and mobile data if permitted.

Resolve any store sign-in, billing-verification, parental-control, or device-management issue shown by the store.

Do not download unofficial APK or configuration files from random websites; they can expose the account and device.

After the update

Open Instagram and verify the original problem. A new feature may still depend on a gradual server-side rollout.

Review newly requested permissions before accepting them and keep two-factor authentication enabled.

If the app crashes after updating, restart the phone, clear cache on Android, or reinstall after protecting drafts and login access.

Frequently asked questions

Why does someone else have a feature I do not?

Instagram can roll out features gradually by account, region, device, or test group even when both apps are updated.

Will updating log me out?

A normal store update usually keeps the session, but you should maintain access to recovery methods.

Is an APK required on Android?

No. Use the official Google Play listing unless your device is managed through another trusted official store.
